Pokemon MD Club Psychic Pavilion Leader

Whew! Just in time!

Decided to submit a last minute entry since nobody else seems to be entering this contest. While going over ideas for who I wanted the leader to be, originally I was considering Beheeyem since it's an under appreciated Psychic type. I was also considering more ancient-y pokemon like Bronzong, but I already drew it and didn't feel like it would fit. I was looking at the design of the Pavilion  and considered Baltoy or Claydol, but I felt it would be a little too simple. I DEFINITELY wanted to avoid Xatu since the contest description talked about a sunrise (funnily enough I was thinking of having the sunrise right behind before even reading that part) and I didn't want to go with a cliche. So instead I thought about what kind of Pokemon would make a good leader, and thought I didn't want to do Gardevoir I looked at Gallade and thought about it. Being part fighting type, it would be perfect to combat dark types which Psychic types are weak to, and ended up going with that.

I have never drawn Gallade before, and had a lot of issues with his 'bubble' hips, but tweaked it enough to satisfy me. I did have lineart planned, but I got busy and injured at work which made me want to use any free time to sleep, and realized I wouldn't be able to finish in time if I lined everything. So I decided to give painting a try without lines.

I think the trickiest part with this one was the sky. I have NEVER done a sunrise sky before, so I had to look up a few references. Found one where the sun was in a similar position and went based off that, but I had to redo it like 5 times before I liked it. I wanted to do clouds too, but I really need to sleep and I'm assuming my friend is coming over later for Doctor Who night (we talked about it last week but haven't spoken much since then lol) so I won't have time to work on it.
